In 2013, Our Lady of Joy (OLOJ) Parish Pastoral Council recognized that there was a possible need for a senior ministry service for OLOJ Parishioners over the age of 55. At that time a Needs Analysis was performed by surveying those Parishioners that were over the age of 55. A review was also performed of the demographics for this same age group. The demographic review indicated that there is a growing trend and increase of Parishioners over the age of 55. The results of the survey identified the needs and wants of our seniors and was instrumental in determining how to organize the new senior ministry services.
Jesus calls us to care for the elderly and give them our greatest respect. Holy Family Parish Serving Our Seniors (SOS) Ministry recognizes and fosters the intrinsic value of persons of all ages and circumstances by providing not only charitable assistance, services, information and consultation, while still promoting, enhancing and preserving the dignity, honor and quality of life for the elderly and caregiver members of Holy Family.
The SOS Ministry exists to serve the members of Holy Family Parish (that generally are 55 and over and living at home) by providing FREE volunteer companionship and assistance to help seniors continue to be independent and healthy, while remaining in their homes and communities. Assistance may include transportation to medical appointments, caregiver relief, friendship visits, social outings, information seminars on various senior topics, limited legal assistance, senior service guidance and some minor work and home repairs.
Since our inception in October 2013, at Our Lady of Joy, the SOS Ministry continues to be ready to serve the seniors of Holy Family. A more detailed description of all services provided, and contact information can be found on the following pages. Seniors wishing to register for the Home and Transportation Services (HaTS) need to call the Rectory (HaTS Office) at 412-793-4511 ext-107.
